The Healthy Giraffe – 6 Year Anniversary

The Healthy Giraffe is six years old! In some ways it seems like I have been at this for so long and other times it seems like yesterday. What is this you may ask? I wrote the purpose of The Healthy Giraffe just over six years ago…

The Purpose is to provide resources, support and community in an effort to live a healthy lifestyle. Take personal accountability for your health – no one else will. I have learned a lot of personal lessons over the years about my health… One of the most important lessons I learned when understanding my own unhealthy lifestyle and then reinforced with COVID-19 is to question everything. Find resources you trust and when you do, question them. Educate yourself to make the best decisions for your situation. If I’m one of those resources you trust, that’s great. I have no agenda other than share my experiences and what I learned but like I noted, question me, do what’ right for your situation, and consult with professionals with your specific needs.

The tagline, Add Health to Your Lifecan mean just about anything in the spirit of – when we add and continue to add healthy things in our lives, we move less desirable things out. This can be nutrition, fitness, relationships, how we spend our time, etc. So if it’s going out to walk once a day, running a block, a 5k, eating one more serving of fruit and/or veggies in a day – it’s about adding good (healthy) things in our lives, not missing what we think we are going to miss.

I have learned so much on my journey from living an unhealthy life to living a pretty darn healthy lifestyle now. I have so many people to thank for that. You can see more how my life transpired on the page – My Story.

To support the purpose, my commitment was to write a blog, “The Giraffe Paper,” once a week. I stuck to that for over four years and I stumbled four times in 2022 and many times this year for a few different reasons. I did post 17 blogs have written 307 in the six years. I have written blogs spanning topics on nutrition, performance, the mind, our community and more…

The challenges this year included starting a new job, enhanced time and energy on three big races I was competing in, coaching, and family/relationship priorities. All great things to shift focuses to and I wouldn’t change anything, but I so miss writing…

  • Visitors from 45 countries viewed the page this year with the top 5 including:

  • The top five blogs from 2022 measured in amount of views:

    2. 2023 Duathlon World Championship – Recapping competing in the 2023 Duathlon (Olympic Distance) World Championship representing Team USA…the greatest race of my life
    3. My Love for Coaching – I was featured in a spotlight article in the March edition of Safety Harbor Living Magazine
    4. 2023 Long Course National Championship – A battle at the end to get across the finish line
    5. 2023 Duathlon (Olympic Distance) National Championship – The best race of my life…it came together on this day…
