Learning How To Cook

Can I cook? Some…I think so…not really…maybe? I’ve had a lot of fun learning how to make plant-based meals, snacks and desserts since going plant-based over two years ago. There are some things about cooking I know a lot about and other things I have no idea what I’m doing or what an ingredient is, then depending on Google to help identify what something is and/or what it looks like so I can identify it when at the store. In an effort to continue my education in plant-based nutrition and share with my community, I am excited to begin the Rouxbe Plant-Based Professional Certification tomorrow.

Rouxbe is one of the world’s leaders in online culinary schools and after researching several programs I’m excited to have chosen Rouxbe and begin my formal cooking program. This will be a six month experience with a lot of experiments coming my way and maybe yours. Getting access to the Rouxbe portal ahead of time, I found a recipe for cholocolate brownie cookies (pictured below) and made them for a gathering with friends last night. Prior to making I had to go out and get a few ingredients I have not used before including chocolate extract and chocolate wafers.

It took me a bit longer than I expected so I had to place the two cookie sheets in my back seat to continue the cool down process as we made the trip over to the gathering. They came out pretty well…I may have had too much salt added in…will dial that back next time.

I will share regular updates through the Giraffe Paper and social media throughout the program. I’m sure some of these experiments will make their way into future Healthy Giraffe Events as well. Fingers crossed I don’t get anyone sick…
